Pediatric Dentistry in Hyderabad
Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. A pediatric dentist has two to three years specialty training following dental school and limits his/her practice to treating children only. Pediatric dentists are primary and specialty oral care providers for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs.
Since every child is different, pediatric dentists have a wide range of approaches to help a child complete needed dental treatment. A pediatric dentist makes a recommendation of behavior guidance methods for the child based upon health history, special health care needs, dental needs, type of treatment required, the consequences of no treatment, emotional and intellectual development, and parental preferences.
Preventive treatments
- Provide a professional cleaning, removing stains, plaque, and tartar buildup
- Review proper nutrition and dietary habits
- Teach good brushing and flossing habits
- Assess risk for developing cavities
- Evaluate and assess for normal growth and development, including tooth development, eruption, spacing, alignment, and arch form.
- Discuss any oral habits (ex. pacifier, thumb sucking) and how they may be affecting normal growth and development
- And provide resources that stop cavities like fluoride (a treatment that can help to strengthen teeth) and sealants (a material that protects/seals the groves in the teeth)
Restorative treatments
Sometimes, despite our best efforts, cavities happen or teeth break. Whether the tooth needs a filling, a crown, or a customized treatment, we can assess your child’s specific need and restore his or her teeth back to health and beauty.

Pit & Fissure Sealant
Dental sealants are materials placed in these pits and fissures to fill them in, creating a smooth surface which is easy to clean. Dental sealants are mainly used in children who are at higher risk of tooth decay, and are usually placed as soon as the adult molar teeth come through.
Fluoride application
Fluoride is a natural element that is found in water, tea, meat, eggs and fish. It helps prevent tooth decay and speed up the remineralization process in which tooth enamel is built back up. Along with dental sealants, fluoride treatment can be highly effective in preventing tooth decay, even on difficult-to-clean grooved tooth surfaces.
Fillings
If a kid has a cavity in a baby tooth, it often means that bad oral bacteria are eating away at the structure of the tooth and causing decay. To stop the process of decay, a small drill will be used by the dentist to remove the infected area. The hole will then be sealed with filling material. Several different types of fillings can be used by a dentist.
Pulpotomy
A pulpotomy is a dental procedure in which the pulp of the tooth in the crown (the crown is the part of the tooth that is visible) is removed and the pulp in the root canal is left intact. It is mainly performed on primary teeth (on children) and is used to treat tooth decay that has extended to the pulp.
Baby root canal treatment
Baby Root canal treatment is the most common treatment performed on baby teeth. Root canal treatments are typically performed on a tooth that has been infected. This is usually a result of tooth decay that has made its way into the pulp chamber.
Stainless Steel Crowns
Stainless steel crowns are metal caps used to repair a decayed baby molar (back tooth) and prevent it decaying further. They are made to fit the exact size and shape of a child's molar. They are used to cap teeth with large or deep cavities.
Habit breaking
At Epic Smiles, we typically use a fixed habit-breaking appliance for tongue thrusting or thumb sucking because they're the most effective and the success isn't dependent on a child following instructions for wearing it. We leave it in place for about 12 months so that the habit is fully broken.
Early (Interceptive) Orthodontic Care
Early interceptive orthodontic treatment has proven to be extremely beneficial for the overall oral health, development and desired result for a straight, beautiful smile that can last a lifetime. This preventive evaluation, prior to a child’s permanent teeth erupting allows the opportunity for early action and treatment. Our goal is to thoroughly assess the front-to-back and side-to side tooth relationships so we are able to address any impending concerns at the earliest of stages.
Space Maintainers
Space maintainers are used when a primary tooth has been prematurely lost (or extracted) to hold space for the developing permanent tooth. If space is not maintained, teeth on either side of the extraction site can drift into space and prevent the permanent tooth from erupting into its proper position. The space maintainer will be removed from your child’s mouth once his/her permanent tooth replacing the extracted tooth comes in.
